Year 6 Curriculum

Welcome to the Year 6 curriculum page and the last half term of this year!!

Year 6 have lots to look forward to this half term: Robinwood, end of year trip, the leaver’s service in church, year 6 leaver’s show, sports day etc.

Year 6 will also have visits this half term from the staff at the secondary schools they have chosen. They will also be going on their transition days to visit their new schools.

For this half term year 6 will be covering the following units of work in their lessons:

Maths: In maths we will be looking at problem solving and broadening our maths skills.

English: We will also be focusing on our handwriting and improving our independent writing in a range of genres.

Science: This half term we will be looking at all living things and linking it to our work on animals including humans.

Computing: We will be completing using the laptops and iPads for research and using Lego we do.

Geography/History: We will be looking at WW1, WW2 and the Battle of Britain in History and in Geography looking at the countries which were involved in the World Wars.

PE: Our PE session is on Friday mornings This half term we will be doing athletics outside if the weather permits.

French: Children will be learning to hold a conversation with others using what we have learnt.

RE/PSHE: This half term we will be talking about changes and how we feel about them.

Art/DT: We will be linking our Art and DT work to our history work and will be making our own Anderson shelters.

Reading is very important and we read every day in year 6. Reading books will be changed once the children have read their books and had them, signed by a parent/carer or a teacher. Children therefore need to bring their reading book and home-school contact book in to school every day. We also have a reading corner in our classroom where there will be books children can read linked to our topics.

Thank you for taking the time to read the curriculum page for year 6. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask myself or one of the other year 6 staff.
