Welcome to the Year 6 curriculum page! Hope you all had a lovely half term break and are ready for the next half term. For this half term until Easter, Year 6 will be covering the following units of work in their lessons:

Maths: In maths we will be looking at mental maths methods as well as continuing with addition and subtraction, multiplication and division. We will be learning about algebra and looking at SATs reasoning questions as well as doing problem solving in groups!

English: Our non-fiction unit this half term will be persuasive texts where children will write to persuade someone for or against do all living things move? Our fiction unit this half term will be mystery stories and we will be reading the book Holes.

Science: In science our unit this half term is Animals including Humans. We will be focusing on the question ‘Do all living things move?’

Geography: Our unit this half term will be mountains and volcanoes, we will study different volcanoes around the world and what causes an eruption.

Computing: This half term we will be looking at current and new technology and creating our own technology of the future.

PE: Our PE session is on Friday mornings. This half term we will be doing dance in the hall.

Art/DT: The children will be making their own volcanoes from papier Mache!

French: Children will be learning to construct sentences in French.

RE: Children will be looking at the importance of Jesus to Christians.

Homework is sent out on a Monday and due in the Friday of the following week. Children to complete all their homework in their learning logs, many tasks will be research tasks based on our history, geography, science and art work. This half term children will also receive a piece of Grammar/reading and maths homework each week. Children also have their 10minute SATs boosters books at home and school for reading, maths and SPAG which they can use to help them prepare for the SATs tests in May.

Spellings will be given out each Monday and we will have a spelling test on each Friday. Spellings will be sent home in their reading record, so that children can practice at home too.

This half term we will also be running SATs revision sessions:

Monday (Maths) and Tuesday (SPAG) afterschool: 3.30-4.15pm

Wednesday (Maths) and Thursday (SPAG) breakfast: 8.30-8.55am

Reading is very important and we read every day in year 6. Reading books will be changed once the children have read their books and had them, signed by a parent/carer or a teacher. Children therefore need to bring their reading book and home-school contact book in to school every day. We also have a reading corner in our classroom where there will be books children can read linked to our topics.

Thank you for taking the time to read the curriculum page for year 6. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask myself or one of the other year 6 staff.
